Frequently Asked Questions

What musical experience must I have?

No prior experience is needed to begin learning the guitar or mandolin. Beginners and advanced players looking for a new perspective are welcome.

Practice and drive are the only requirements.

You should be ready to practice at least 20 minutes every day. The only way for you to hear the results from your lessons is to practice. The more the better. I’ll keep it challenging and fun.

What instrument and gear do I need?

The only thing you need for your first lesson is a guitar or mandolin. Electric or acoustic are both fine.

I recommend that all students have these additional items:

Metronome (online free metronome is fine)
Tuner

What study materials do you provide?

I provide tabs, music notation, chord diagrams, workouts, and scales for you. Just have a folder on your desktop to save them in and you can grab tunes and workouts in seconds.

What are the computer requirements?

Windows or Mac both work great.
You will need a webcam.
I can help pick one if needed.
Your internet connection should be DSL or Cable.
You will need to install Skype.

When we have our first lesson, I can help you with computer troubles. In the rare case of a technical problem, where the lesson just can’t happen, we can reschedule or credit the lesson.

When do I pay? What if I need to reschedule?
